Antique Béarn Household Cloth / AE Monogram
$ 96.00
An early Béarn household cloth - pure white linen with woven stripes. Silky linen with traditional geometric woven design and indigo blue stripes. Very nice condition, with a small weak spot on one of the stripes which has an original repair. This cloth would make a stunning table runner.
Approximate Size: 20" x 80"
Béarn, located in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques (Nouvelle-Aquitaine region), has a strong tradition of handweaving and textile craftsmanship, often using local sheep’s wool or homegrown linen/hemp. Artisans in the region often produced homespun fabrics for household use (towels, sheets, tablecloths, etc.), especially pre-industrialization. Traditional French Béarn household cloths — such as towels, table linens, and utility fabrics — have been made in the Béarn region of southwestern France since at least the 18th century.
