Night Sky Embroidery / Saturday, September 22nd / 10-1pm

$ 110.00

Learn to stitch the stars and connect the constellations with embroidery as we embellish a beautiful 1894 map of the night sky custom printed on a generous 14" x 26" panel of cotton linen canvas.  Perfectly suited for beginners, instruction will cover solid embroidery basics and essential stitches.  However, students with more embroidery experience are invited to join for a fun refresher course and the opportunity to stitch a large-format map.  All materials (custom sampler, embroidery floss, hoops and needles!) along with instructional diagrams are provided and included in the cost of the class.  Coffee and pastries will be served.

The superimposed text reads, "The night sky, stitched as it is with stars carries pieces of us all." - a gorgeous quote excerpt by author Lidia Yuknavitch.  The map, sourced from a vintage astronomy book in the British Library, depicts southern signs of the zodiac and constellations between declinations 45 degrees N and 45 degrees S.

What to do once you’ve completed your astronomical embroidery at home? This free-form sampler features wide margins making is easy to hem the edges for a wall hanging or incorporate the panel into a bolster pillow or larger quilted project!  We’ll discuss a world of options in this workshop.
